May – National Burn Awareness Month

burn awareness

South Africa has dedicated May as National Burn Awareness Month and focuses specifically between 6 – 12 May 2021, for National Burn Awareness Week. Because of the dedication to helping prevent burn injuries, Burnshield’s theme this year is electrical burns. The focus being on the alphabetical letters from A – Z on electrical safety, with the aim to help reduce the incidences of burn injuries and deaths.

A common risk of injury exists from unprotected electrical outlets, improperly used extension cords, lightning, and workplace electrical injuries. Significant research and medical advances have dramatically improved burn care and treatment, aided rehabilitation, shortened hospital stays, and increased burn survival rates. Burn safety education and prevention efforts continue to reduce the number of people who suffer burns each year.

So join us this Burn Awareness Month for daily posts on statistics, facts and tips to combat burn injuries and prevention. Follow us on any of our social media platforms, tag @BurnshieldZA and hashtag #Burnshield with any hero stories you may have experienced with Burnshield by your side.
