WATER SHUTDOWN – How do you treat a burn when there is no water supply?

Water cuts

Seems as though Johannesburg and surrounding areas just can’t catch a break. First they were dealt a blow with no electricity… and now there’s notice for no water. Rand Water has warned customers of a water shutdown from Monday 15 November to Wednesday 17 November. The outage which is scheduled to last at least 54 hours, will have an immense impact on the already very limited City of Johannesburg’s firefighting services and the outstanding private brigades such as Fire Ops SA and ZAKA

We urge all residents to take all the necessary safety and precaution measures to avoid a fire from breaking out and especially instances where one will accidentally get burnt. Generally speaking, treating a burn requires 15-20 minutes of cool running water. Without this essential source what does one do?

APPLY BURNSHIELD

The immediate response to treat a burn is to cool the burn. Prompt treatment reduces the risk of serious complications and, in the case of severe burns, may even save a person’s life. Skin is the human body’s largest organ. It’s also nature’s best insulator. When burnt, heat gets trapped underneath the skin and the burn grows in size and depth. Superficial Partial Thickness (First Degree) burns have the ability to spontaneously develop into Full Thickness (Third Degree) burns up to 48 hours following injury if not treated correctly.

Burnshield’s ingredients include 96% water. This high water content effectively transfers heat through evaporation providing effective cooling and minimises pain and shock.
